Brewing nicely

We’re at the back end of the season, just five league games to go and a couple of cup games for good measure and we’re still no clearer who is going to win what.

Cresselly are hot on the heels of Carew in division one although the Rooks still occupy pole position while at the other end of the spectrum, Pembroke would require a miracle to stay up given they’ve not won a game all season and who will go down with them depends on whether Johnston can string another couple of wins together.

If they don’t Kilgetty and Lawrenny will survive the drop.

Llangwm look odds on favourites to win division two although it’s been known for them  to slip up in positions like this in the past while Narberth should also go up although Llechryd have found a bit of form and may have something to say about that.

At the bottom, Stackpole have only won once so they look certs to drop down and Llanrhian may go down with them although Haverfordwest seconds and Whitland seconds are not out the woods yet.

Division three is an interesting one at the top with no fewer than five teams having a chance for promotion.

Hook lead the way on 277 points with Herbrandston second on 265. Then come Cresselly seconds on 257 and then Lamphey on 230 and Pembroke Dock are just behind them on 225.

Hook are favourites to go up with Herbie and Cresselly the most likely to go with them although Lamphey and the Dock could have something to say about that..

At the bottom, Johnston seconds and Llanrhian seconds have found the going tough and will no doubt slip back down to division four.

Narberth seconds and Llechryd seconds look certs to replace them while Pembroke seconds, Kilgetty seconds and Hundleton are the ones battling it out for survival at the bottom.

Meanwhile in division five, new boys Laugharne are unbeaten and will no doubt go up as champions having by far the strongest batting line up in the division, in fact, some wise sages believe they could hold their own in division three already.

Whitland thirds look a good bet to go up with them.

The last couple of weeks have produced some great cricket around the county.

Tied cup matches, super overs, games being played in virtual darkness to a completion and we have a new name on the Duggie Morris Cup with Whitland having beaten Haverfordwest to claim the first major cricket trophy of the season.

Let’s hope the remaining weeks are just as good.
