Tyler Durden - a fighter not a cricketer As I write this, the test match in Edgbaston had been developing quicker than an imminent arrest in a serial killer case keeping all spectators and avid TV viewers gripped. Pembrokeshire cricket was no less exciting over the weekend as news leaked of gang warfare at Saundersfoot while a player from Pembroke Dock was causing his own havoc at Hundleton. The win/lose/draw debate raised its ugly head on twitter too after Llanrhian smashed St Ishmaels yet Tish held on for a draw. More of the latter later but back to the former for now. It wasn’t gang warfare of course it was no such thing but as we know the game between Saundersfoot and Kilgetty was abandoned  due to a bout of fisty cuffs that obviously has no place in the game. Those involved will no doubt face disciplinary action and it will be interesting to see what  punishment they face considering Ian Hughes of Narberth was suspended for 8 weeks following a fracas after t

The Comeback Queens

Hook ladies - celebrating their brilliant comeback There’s been some great performances this season by individuals and teams but does any surpass this performance by Hook ladies in the final of the Skelfayre cup?   The women’s game is often overlooked in the local scene but there are some great players to be found and the majority were on show in this game played at Hook.   There’s Sam Rossiter who’s scoring runs for fun in men’s cricket. Jo Kerrison, who hobbles about on one knee now as her joints have worn away through playing cricket, hockey, Athletics and such like and Jemma Phillips, daughter of Haverfordwest legend Andrew, who has obviously inherited her father’s predatory instincts in the field having taken a hat-trick of catches in the game. Lets not forget the Scales of Burton, a cricketing family of great pedigree and heritage.   Below is a report written about the game by Hook coach Yacob Cajee, which is as entertaining as the game must have been to all watching.

In praise of shit bowling

We’ve all been there, spent a while at the crease, bogged down by the accuracy of the opposition attack, unable to get the ball off the square, the run rate creeps up, the pressure mounts and every ball you face is a countdown to when the pressure can be released through the lesser bowlers. They come on, your eyes light up and before you know it, the lesser bowler has ripped through your team following an immense collapse. Since the first ball was bowled in Hambledon all those years ago, shit has always taken wickets. A gentle loosner wide on the off side guided straight to point, a stray ball on the leg side snapped up by the keeper and a hand grenade launched near vertical by an over eager batsman hell bent on clearing the ropes for a maximum. Different balls with the same result, the batsman goes straight back into the hutch. Shit takes wickets. It’s as simple as that. Consider then the idea that shit bowling is good. Take the double part timer, a part timer to

Mid Season Tables

You get a fair idea of where you’ll finish up come the mid-way point of the season and as it stands, Haverfordwest will most probably be crowned champions with Carew chasing them all the way. Who would have thought that at the start of the season? The Town would have been in many people’s minds in terms of who could win the title with Neyland also firmly in people’s thoughts but Carew wouldn't have been. This can be seen as being unkind for the county’s most decorated club having slipped off the radar last year when all eyes were on Neyland and the Town. This year they have climbed up the table like stealth as though they are on a secret mission to nip in for the championship on the final day of the season. They may even get there sooner given they are only 13 points behind Haverfordwest while Neyland have slipped well down the ranks after a series of heavy defeats (and in the case of last weekend, a heavy  losing draw). But, the season isn't over yet and it wo
