Friend or Foe?

There'll be no love lost in the winner takes all game between Neyland and Haverfordwest today yet in the day's other big game  at Cresselly, friends and family members will do battle in a game that means a lot to one team and not much else to the other.

Lawrenny have played their part in how this year's first division title race has shaped up and they could still play their part today but with nothing riding on the game for them, will they go all out to win the game or just enjoy the last game of the season and take the field with the air of a side playing in a charity match?

In other words, is the game a foregone conclusion? Will Lawrenny do their chums a favour, pile their second team with first team players to ensure their survival in division three and let nature take its course against the current division leaders?

According to the wife of one Lawrenny player, the answer is no.

The rivalry between Cresselly and Lawrenny may not be as intense as the one between Cresselly and Carew (and we all know how that ended last year) but it's still one not to be sniffed at.

"We want revenge for the Harrison-Allen defeat," she said. "We  may be friends but we never want them to win.

"Off the pitch it's always great but we're never friends on it."

In short, they want to spoil Cresselly's party

They've done it once already this season and they can do it again too.

Cresselly's batting is their strength yet they can still lose wickets in clusters and if three or four went quickly, the pressure on the other batsmen, those that don't often get a chance to bat every week, will be intense.

That's not to say Neyland and Haverfordwest won't be feeling it too with the season once again shaping up for a final day  showdown.

Neyland will be looking to maintain the high of making it to the Welsh Cup final while Haverfordwest will be desperate to make up for lost time following last weekend's abandonment when a win was on the cards.

Some will even blame the weather if the trophy goes elsewhere.

There would be some justification in that of course as not all of the top three have been beaten by the rain, but they have all been beaten by Lawrenny!

Elsewhere in the league there is plenty up for grabs at the top and bottom of all divisions which has been neatly summed up by Fraser Watson in his piece here
